How to Create an Ultimate, Adorable Squishmallows Treasure Hunt – Easy & Inexpensive!

Do you have a friend or family member who is absolutely enamored with these adorable, huggable plushies – Squishmallows!  If so, this treasure hunt may just be the perfect addition to a celebration or gift giving day.  We used this Treasure Hunt as part of a group activity in our Squishmallows Party (link coming soon),  but you could definitely use this for a present or prize treasure hunt just for that special someone! Read on to check it out!

THE THEME

As many of your Squishmallows Fans know, each Squishmallow is associated with a Squad – or a group of “friends” that they get released with.  Usually, there’s a defining trait for the entire Squad. For example, everyone in the Sea Life Squad is a marine animal or everyone in the Fruit Squad is a fruit.  For this Treasure Hunt, we thought we’d go back to the basics and use the First Squad as the theme!

Each clue in this treasure hunt points to one of the First Squishmallows by describing their features as well as placing them somewhere that is tied to their interests.  So, the goal of the treasure is not only to find all the clues and the prize at the end but also the Squishmallows!

Now, unless you’ve been collecting for a while, you might not actually have any First Squad Squishmallows.  BUT never fear, you don’t need the actual Squishmallow for this Hunt – just a picture or sticker 🙂

Unlike some of our other Treasure Hunts, this one is fairly simple – rather than puzzles or escape room type riddles to solve, these are just simple clues that center around one of the Firsts and what they like – as described on their Tags. The clues are meant to be hidden indoors as well, so no need for anything fancy 🙂

THE SETUP / CLUES

Since each clue points to an actual Squishmallow, you’ll want to have something that represents that Squishmallow.

  • Coloring Pages – Luckily, you can find some free printable coloring pages online. Most of the first squad can be found on a handful of sites that share these printables for free! Print them out blank or have your little ones color them 🙂
  • Stickers! – There are tons of sticker packs that you can purchase that have serious Squishmallows (Note: I’m not sure if the same set of stickers is on every purchase) but we used the following for our party & treasure hunt: Squishmallows Stickers, Water Bottle Stickers
  • Mini Mallows – There’s a version of Squishmallows that are tiny (2in) and associated with Squishville – an entire plushie town! If you’re collecting a few sets, you might be able to gather all of the First Squad. This one doesn’t have all of them but does have a few: Squishville Original Squad
  • 5in Squishmallows – Squishmallows Anniversary Collection: There was a 5 Year Anniversary Edition that was released a year ago; however, you likely won’t be able to find those in any stores today. You may be able to find them online or for resale..

CLUES & HIDING SPOTS

The intro card sets up the treasure hunt and lets the treasure hunters know they’ll be searching for Squishmallows! Aside from the last card, which leads to the final prize, the rest of the cards are interchangeable.

  • Cam the Cat (Closet or Drawer) – Like many of the Firsts, Cam the Cat is quite an adventurous Squishmallow.  Among many things, he likes to go to the beach.  So, hide the next clue and Cam around your beach attire or shorts and t-shirts!
  • Fifi the Fox (Suitcase) – Fifi the Fox is also an adventurous one!  Among her many interests is traveling!  Hide the next clue and Fifi in a suitcase or where you store them!
  • Hans the Hedgehog (Kitchen) – Hans the Hedgehog loves to eat AND come up with new recipes in the kitchen.  Hide the next clue and Hans somewhere in the kitchen.
  • Wendy the Frog (Plant) – Wendy the Frog loves basketball, creating inventions, and gardening!  Hide the next clue and Wendy by plant.
  • Piper the Penguin (Paints or Craft Area) – Piper is athletic but also loves painting.  Hide the next clue and Piper by the paint sets or craft area.
  • Hoot the Owl (Reading Nook) – Hoot loves quiet spaces and reading.  Hide the next clue and Hoot by a beloved reading space or area.
  • Holly the Owl (Radio) – Holly is Hoot’s twin but opposite in personality.  Holly loves singing and dancing!  Hide the next clue and Holly by the device that plays your favorite music!
  • Puff the Penguin (Computer) – Puff is the techie of the group and loves coding.  This is the final prize, so hide Puff and the prize near the computer!
