Squishmallows have taken over!  Do you have a Squishmallows lover in your life?  And can you blame them?  Squishmallows are adorable, huggable, and come with their very own personalities and interests – what’s not to love 🙂

And so, of course, we had to celebrate our little one’s birthday with a Squishmallow themed party!  At the time of this party, Squishmallows are just about everywhere but party supplies and games are much harder to find.  We had to get a bit creative with our decorations and games but still tried to keep the cost a bit low.  Read on to check out our ideas!

DECORATIONS

Chances are if you’re throwing a Squishmallows party, you already have a handful or more of these adorable friends!   If you’re OK with having them out for the party (and possibly hugged and cuddled by guests), place them around the party area for all to enjoy!

Luckily, there are a handful of party kits that you can find online (Squishmallows Birthday Supplies Kit, Squishmallows Party Supplies) that come with banners, cupcake toppers, and balloons.  We didn’t find too many Squishmallows themed party kits at regular party stores, but hopefully there will be more options soon!  The one we settled on was Squishmallow Birthday Supplies Kit which also came with a backdrop.  If you can’t get your hand on a kit, a few stickers and some cutouts from Squishmallows packages can help keep your party area in theme!

We also purchased a few sets of Squishmallows Stickers and Water Bottle Stickers which had multiple functions: decorations/table scatter, Squishmallows Search games, and goodie bag items.

For our food and activity tables, we created some simple labels to match the Squishmallows tag color scheme and added some stickers to each label.  (Click here to check them out!).

THE PHOTO AREA

Photo backdrops are a great way of setting a theme and double as a nice and easy activity!  Pick a backdrop that functions as decorative, add a few props to the scene and you’ve got a great place to hang out!

If your guests are just as Squishmallows obsessed, let them know they can bring one or two to join in on the Squishmallows party!   On the day of the party, have guests take some photos with their Squishmallows Friend(s) with the Backdrop from the Squishmallows Birthday Supplies Kit!

And if you’re not able to grab that kit, there are some other backdrops featuring these adorable plushies as well: Squishmallows Party Backdrop, Squishmalllows Happy Birthday Backdrop.  Otherwise, you could also opt for a simple color scheme too: Rainbow Backdrop or a pink/teal plain backdrop.

Note, you don’t have to go all out with a photo backdrop stand either.  Grab a few pieces of tape and an empty wall & you’re all set!

THE TABLE

With just a few Squishmallows themed items, you can create an awesome table perfect for your little ones!

For our table, we couldn’t find any Squishmallows themed plates, napkins, or cups, so we went with solid colors that resemble the Squishmallows tags – teals, light blues, pinks.  Then to add the Squishmallows aspect, we added a Squishville Mini Blind Bag on each table setting.

For the ‘centerpiece’, we spelled out “SQUISHMALLOWS” on some printed paper..  On the back of each letter, there was a bit of Squishmallows trivia that each reader could either ask the entire table to try and answer or just read out loud 🙂

We also scattered Squishmallows Stickers around the table.

PARTY FOOD

No party is complete without some party food!  You can always serve some typical (or fancier) party food, but you can also keep in theme with a few clever labels 🙂

There are some adorable Squishmallows out there either shaped as fun snacks or with yummies in hand – Check out the Squishmallow Foodie Friends, Snack Squad, Junk Food Squad.  You could follow the trend and “Eat like Squishmallows”.  Otherwise you could also “Feast with the Food Squads” and serve up some similar goodies that match the Food Squads.

We thought it’d be cute to set up our food table like a mini market – each Squishmallow had a stand, truck, or cart to hold their food. To keep costs low, we painted a few cardboard boxes but did purchase a few foam/cardboard/paper items – Cart Treat Stand, Food Truck Treat Stand, and Food Truck Utensil.

This is by no means a comprehensive list but these are some of the foods that you could definitely serve up at a party 🙂

ACTIVITY TABLE(S)

We typically set up an activity table for kids to keep entertained while everyone arrives AND after all the games are done.  These activities are simple and easy and typically don’t require too much supervision.

  • Which Squishmallow Are You?  While online quizzes should never be taken too seriously, there’s something so fun about answering a few questions and figuring out which Squishmallow matches your personality or which one you’d most likely be!  If you have a good collection of stickers, you might be able to give each quiz taker a matching Squishmallow sticker 🙂  Below are a few that we used but there are quite a few out there if you want to check around!
  • How many words can you make out of “Squishmallows”
    • This one is a simple activity to set up .  Squishmallows is a big enough word that you can actually create over 400 words from its letters!  If you need a few starter words, check out wordmarker.com!
  • How many Squishmallows Can You Name? This one is also super simple – just some paper and pencil. See how many Squishmallows everyone can name!
  • The Squishmallows Design Table – Also super simple. Lay down a few pieces of paper and some coloring materials and let them design their own Squishmallows!
  • What’s in Squishmallows?  Guessing how many items in a jar are always fun, age-ranging activities!  For this one, we set up a few items in jars but they all followed a theme – They’re all soft and fluffy and so could be the stuffing for a Squishmallow.  Bonus points went to the kids who could fill in the correct answer – What’s inside a Squishmallow (it’s the polyester fiber).  We didn’t use all the options below but thought we’d add them all in here for more to pick and choose from 🙂
    • Cotton Balls
    • Cotton Candy Packs
    • Fiber Fill Packs
    • Foam Packing Peanuts
    • Marshmallows
    • Pom Poms
  • Coloring Pages.  Coloring pages are a staple for activity tables!   There are quite a few sites with free printables – below are a few that we found.   AND if you want to put a bit of a twist to it, you can have everyone decorate with different utensils (crayons, colored pencils, paint, pastels, etc) AND/OR have them create a Squishmallows mural for an added picture area!

GAMES

What’s a party without some fun and memorable games??? Kids will definitely have fun just running around and coming up with their own games, BUT adding in a few themed games will definitely be a hit with your guests! Here were a few of ours.

  • Find & Collect the Squishmallows (stickers) –  We have used this nice little hack for several parties and it’s always hit!  It makes decorating the party area super easy with even less clean up!  Basically, you purchase a set of stickers that match the theme, scatter them around the party area, then tell the little ones to find as many as they can!  You can make it a competition and/or time them if you have an older group OR you can just have them find and keep them.  Chances are they’ll want to do some trading after they’ve sorted them all too 🙂   This party was no different – they LOVED searching and collecting the Squishmallows stickers!
  • Squishmallows Monopoly – This one is a bit pricey considering it’s essentially the classic version of Monopoly with everything switched to a Squishmallows theme.  BUT it is super cute & can get Squishmallows fans into board games if they’re not already!  Also, it comes with a cute Cam the Cat in a monopoly outfit.  There’s a max of 6 players, so you’ll want to keep that in mind for your party group.
  • Squishmallows Treasure Hunt – This one can be done as a group party activity OR as a treasure hunt for the birthday kid.   You could use any general treasure hunt clues and hide clues with Squishmallows Stickers, images, or plushies & they’d have a blast!  We created one based on the First Squishmallows Squad.  Each clue is based on a Squishmallows’ personality or interests with the clues hidden all around the house.  (Link coming soon)
  • Squishville – Cartoon for Kids on Amazon Video.  AND once they’re all tired out from the games and fun, you could put on the Squishville Cartoon (it is on Amazon but you could probably find it on Youtube).  They’re very short episodes but cute for young Squishmallows fans 🙂

And while we didn’t have these games at our party, you could also add these in for some more party fun.

  • Squishmallows 1000 Piece Puzzle – 1000 pieces is actually quite a lot to get through by yourself but a number of guests or puzzle experts contributing a few pieces and you might be able to get through it in a day.
  • Squishmallows Bingo – There are a number of Squishmallows printables on Etsy for just a few dollars.  If you’ve got a group that loves Bingo, this is a great addition to your party 🙂

GOODIE BAGS & GIVEAWAYS

Since we had a smaller group, we decided to give out a small but more costly gift for each kid – a set of Squishmallows Trading Cards and a Squishville Mini Blind Bag.  You could also opt for setting up a cute little Squishmallows Adoption Center with 5 inch Squishmallows Stuffed Animals for roughly $6 from fivebelow.com.

Alternatively, you could pick up a pack of Squishville Minis that come in a pack (not the playset but the set with 6 or more minis).  Squishville Minis are like Squishmallows but are only 2 inches and can also feature playsets and mini plush houses or buildings.
