What better way to wrap up a unit study on sharks, celebrate shark week, or throw a shark week party than to celebrate with a shark themed party! We’ve thrown a few water themed parties (Ocean Themed Party, Ultimate Little Mermaid Party, A Sweet & Simple Mermaid Party, A Mythical Mermaid Party, A Backyard Water Party), but this was our first with a full shark theme 🙂 Read on to check out our ideas!
DECORATIONS

Bring out all the ocean colors – all shades of blues – and any ocean decorations you have. Bubbles, mini pools, and/or water tables work great if you have an outdoor space!
We spread out a few shark week stickers all over the party area as well.
PHOTO AREA
Photo backdrops are a great way of setting a theme and double as a nice and easy activity! Pick a backdrop that functions as decorative, add a few props to the scene and you’ve got a great place to hang out!
There are tons of underwater, sea-water backdrops to pick from. Here are a few just to start: Undersea Sunlight Backdrop, Ocean Backdrop, Bubble Garland!
Note, you don’t have to go all out with a photo backdrop stand either. Grab a few pieces of tape and an empty wall & you’re all set!
THE TABLE

For our table, we opted for a fully obvious shark week look with Shark Week Dinner Plates, Shark Week Dessert Plates, Shark Week Napkins, Shark Week Centerpieces, and Shark Week Stickers.
PARTY FOOD

No party is complete without some party food! There are tons of ocean and shark themed food and snacks to set out for a party: shark gummies, goldfish, Swedish fish, mythical creature cookies, seaweed, pirate booty.
In other parties, we’ve also had some blue jello shark gummies (Great White Shark Day), shark cups (Ocean Camp Shark Day) – Shark Snack Cones for a ready to make craft.
GAMES & ACTIVITIES
We typically set up an activity table for kids to keep entertained while everyone arrives AND after all the games are done. These activities are simple and easy and typically don’t require too much supervision!
- Shark Week Sticker Scenes: These are simple sticker scenes that come with stickers and a background scene – simple & easy 🙂
- Pin the Fin on the Shark: This one is pretty simple and always gets a laugh out of little ones! Have one guest blindfolded and try to ‘pin’ the fin on the shark! There are a few variations you can find online or in stores (Shark Week Pin the FIn on the Shark Game, Pin the Fin on the Shark)
- Shark Week Bingo – This one is easy & works well for guests who’d rather play games than run around 😉 Pick up a Shark Week Bingo Set and a few mini prizes to add to the fun!
- Sticker Hunt: This activity works soooo well that we use it in almost every party toward the end! Stickers are a great way of decorating party tables (as table scatter). For some of our last activities, we have a ‘sticker hunt’ and let the little ones run around collecting as many as possible! They get to keep or trade whichever ones they find! For this party, kids picked up the shark week stickers that were spread out around the party area!
GOODIE BAGS & GIVE WAYS
What’s a party without a few giveaways. In addition to any shark (or shark related) themed snacks like shark gummies, swedish fish, etc… add in some Mini Shark Puzzles, Mini Shark Beach Balls!
