WHAT YOU’LL NEED

THE SUPPLIES:

  • 1 Pipe Cleaner
  • 1 Tissue Paper

THE TOOLS:

  • Scissors

STEPS

STEP 1: Create the Body

Fold the pipe cleaner about 1.5 inches – this will be the body of the butterfly.   Fold the longer end back down and loop through around the body – this will create two small pieces at the top which will be the antenna.

Then create a semicircle with the longer end.  Loop it through the body to secure it to the rest of the butterfly.  Complete the circle at the top.  Bend the pipe cleaner so that the circle portions are shaped more like wings.

STEP 2: Create the Wings

Cut a strip of the tissue paper – the width should be slightly larger than your butterfly from wing to wing.  Take the strip and fold it accordian-style with the height to match the height of the wings.

Cut the folded portions so that you have several strips instead of an accordian.  Insert the stack into the butterfly wing portion of the folded pipe cleaner.  Fluff and arrange.

STEP 3: Optionally Add a Stick or Clothespin

To attach the butterfly to an object or have it “float” on it’s own, attach it to a dowel or clothespin. To make it blend in more, you could also paint the dowel or clothespin green to appear like grass!
