Abracadabra!  Whether your little one is enamored with wizards, magical creatures, or illusions, magic is a great theme for a kid and/or family party!  Who doesn’t love a fun card trick or trying to figure out the secret behind a magical illusion!  If you’re looking for some fun magician and magic party ideas, read on for some ideas on decorations, table settings, party food, games, activities, and more!

THE TABLE

We picked up most of our party tableware from orientaltrading.com: Magical Party Centerpiece, Magical Party Abracadabra Cups.  Then we mixed them with some standard black and red items.

We also printed some magic jokes and fun facts from kidadl.com so guests could try their luck during meal time: (30 Magic Puns That Are Wand-Erfully Funny and 42 Marvelous Magic Facts Which Every Kid Wants To Know).  We laid them in the middle of the table along with some extra playing cards (face up) as our table runner.  On the top of the “runner”, we added the Magical Party Centerpiece.

For each table setting, we added a white mini bunny from the Mini Plush Rabbits wearing a top hat from the Mini Hats Set, as well as a wand from Magical Wand Bubble Tubes.  They were super cute & the kids were excited to take them home!

THE PHOTO BOOTH

Photo backdrops are a great way of setting a theme and double as a nice and easy activity!  Pick a backdrop that functions as decorative, add a few props to the scene and you’ve got a great place to hang out!

For our photo area, we picked up Red Curtain Backdrop.  This one comes in two pieces so you can actually look like you’re coming out of the curtain 😉  Note: It isn’t cloth, so there is a bit of a shine to it.  We also bought a package of Magic Photo Booth Props – there are quite a few props in this packet.  They’re a little small but worked great for our little ones 🙂  We also had a number of Magical Party Cutouts all around the party area for more picture opportunities!

If you have any spare top hats and capes (even if they’re from other costumes) and you don’t mind sharing, bring them out too! Stuffed bunny rabbit animals would make great props as well 🙂

Note, you don’t have to go all out with a photo backdrop stand either.  Grab a few pieces of tape and an empty wall & you’re all set!

PARTY FOOD

No party is complete without some party food!  You can always serve some typical (or fancier) party food, but you can also keep in theme with a few clever labels 🙂  We used a few Magical Party Cupcake Stands and Magical Party Centerpieces to keep the tables in theme!

  • Abracadabra Avocado Dip – this one is obvious & perfect for guacamole fans! Serve up some guacamole with chips or yummy veggies!
  • Voila Veggies – Speaking of Veggies, any tray will do!
  • Spellbinding Beans – This one is simple too – just set out a tray of baked (or refried) beans!
  • Card Deck Sandwiches – This one takes a bit more effort.  Make some simple sandwiches for your younger guest’s taste buds &  cut them up into some card deck symbols / shapes.  Diamonds are the easiest & you can find a heart shaped sandwich cutter but the other shapes may be a bit more difficult (There are cookie cutters if you want to make your sandwiches pretty small).
  • Open Sesame Sesame Bagels/Sandwiches – If your guests are fans of bagels or sesame seed bread, this would work great for a lunch time sandwich or snack.
  • Presto Pizza – Cheese, Pepperoni, or any other toppings!
  • The Edible Magician’s Desk – Chessman Cookies.  This one is a bit of a stretch but the kings and queens are perfect for the face cards in a deck.
  • Magical Muffins – If you have a knack for baking, it’d be cute to have a few candy or chocolate surprises in the middle of the muffin. If, however, you’re like me, a simple cupcake topper would work too 🙂
  • Make Your Own Magic Wands – Large Pretzels with some chocolate or yogurt to dip into.  Let your guests decide 🙂
  • Magic Bunny Bottom Props – Because no one wants to eat an actual bunny tail, we called them ‘props’.  But, they’re actually delicious white powdered munchkins
  • Bunny Crackers – This one is simple & easy – they’re just Annie’s Bunny Crackers.  They come in a few different flavors, we opted for graham cracker but cheddar is also a favorite 🙂

ACTIVITY TABLE

We typically set up an activity table for kids to keep entertained while everyone arrives AND after all the games are done.  These activities are simple and easy and typically don’t require too much supervision.

  • Guess the #: This one is a pretty easy, low-prep activity.  Grab what you have around the house and fill up some extra jars with as much as you can (save up those food jars or find them at the Dollar Store).  Be sure to keep count so you can tell who came closest!  A few ideas:
    • Bunny Bottoms (Cotton Balls)
    • Top Hats (from the Mini Hats Set)
    • Magic Beans (Any type of jelly beans or regular dry beans)
    • Carnival/Raffle Tickets (We purchased a roll of Carnival Tickets a while back and have used it for several parties!)
    • Playing Cards (If you’re like my house and can’t keep a full deck for more than a month or two, then you might have a bunch of cards left over. Stick them in a jar for this game!)
    • Card Symbol Shapes (Heart, Diamond, Clover, or Club Shaped Stickers would probably be easiest to find)
  • Card Tricks: Many people have learned a card trick or two.  Set up a few decks on some extra tables and see if anyone can pull a card trick on their fellow guests 🙂

And while we didn’t have these crafts set up at our activity table, you could also add these in for some more before or after party games fun: https://a.co/d/bVb1X9t

GAMES

If you have the opportunity, you can definitely hire a magician – they’d work great for a magician party 😉 Otherwise, you can pick up a few tricks online and try to trick out your guests. It’s also fun to show a trick or two and then let the kids in on the secret. They will LOVE practicing and trying out their new magic skills on others!

The highlight of our party was our puzzle filled treasure hunt!  We set up a few stations for common magic tricks and hid some puzzles around each station.  Since we knew most our guests would focus more on the problem solving, we didn’t plan to perform the actual tricks, but that would be a fun addition to the party as well!  (Click here to check out the full details!)

GOODIE BAGS & GIVEAWAYS

We filled up a few Magical Party Favor Boxes with some extra Magical Wand Bubble Tubes. and Mini Plush Rabbits as well as mini packets of Annie’s Bunny Crackers and Chessman Cookies.  We also added in some candy, stickers, and other treats 🙂

And while we didn’t go this route, you could also pick up a kit of top hats and wands for each guests. It would be super cute to have a bunch of little magicians running around the party area 🙂
