An Amazing Kid-Friendly Halloween Carnival Party – Easy & Inexpensive Ideas!

Carnivals and circuses are always super fun!  So of course, when Halloween comes around, a Halloween Carnival is the perfect theme for a party!   With just a few tweaks to some traditional carnival games and decorations, you can have an AMAZING kid-friendly Halloween Carnival in your own home!

DECOR

Since this is a Halloween Carnival party, set up some traditional carnival and circus decorations. Then add some pumpkins, hay bales, spiders, and spiderwebs to add some Halloween feelings!

ARRIVAL

For guests who arrived early, we set up a Fortune Teller “Booth” (which was really just a table with some Paper Folded Fortune Tellers and Fortune Teller Scratch Cards).   For a previous carnival party, we did make the booth more “tent like” which you can easily do by throwing some dark blankets or tablecloths over a play tent or foldable table.  Toss in some plastic spiders and webs and you’ll get an even spookier scene 🙂

FOOD & DRINKS

If you’ve got some Melissa and Doug Large Blocks, you can pair it with this inexpensive 3D Red & White Circus Awning to create a carnival-themed booth.  While we didn’t create the entire booth that we set up for our Imaginative Play – Save the Carnival Day Party, we set up the top portion and added some black Halloween cloth to give it a more Halloween feel.  We also set up some Halloween themed snacks (Cotton Candy & Water Bottles) along with traditional Cracker Jacks.

The rest of the food was pretty typical.  To keep in Carnival Theme, we served hot dogs in red baskets covered with red and white wax paper.

And OF COURSE, we had to have popcorn served in traditional Popcorn Paper Bags 😉

ACTIVITIES

For this party, we just set up a few stations where kids (and adults) could play throughout the party 🙂

  • Velcro Dartboards.   We purchased these Halloween-themed Velcro Dartboards a while ago.  It doesn’t look like they’re available where we purchased them anymore but it does look like they have a Pumpkin-Shaped Dartboard.  Alternatively, you can create one out of cardboard or poster board!
  • Rubber Duck Game.  This is just like the Carnival Rubber Duck game where a player picks up a duck.  Based the # written on the bottom of the duck, they get the corresponding # of tickets or prizes (depending on what you’re playing for).  The only difference is that these ducks are Halloween Rubber Ducks! Quick note: Though these ducks were cute we also added in some regular rubber ducks as the Vampire and Frankenstein ducks kept falling over. We still used them as part of the game but had to lay them on the table without the water 🙂
  • Cauldron Toss.  Pick up a few Cauldrons from your local Dollar Store, Party, or Craft Store and you can have a Halloween version of the familiar Bucket Toss 😉
  • Cup & Ball Game.  This is also a variation of a Carnival Game – where there is one ball, three cups, and a person moving the cups around.  The players have to guess which cup has the ball.   Use Halloween cups and a small black or orange pom pom to make it more Halloween themed.
  • Ghost Lollipops.  This is a variation of the Carnival Lollipop Stand where the person gets to pick a lollipop.  They get to keep the lollipop but also get a prize if the lollipop is colored on the bottom.  We had a similar concept but the lollipops were dressed up as ghosts 😉  Click here to check out how we set up the game.

GOODIE BAG

We kept things fairly simple with the goodie bags – typical Halloween items (pencils, notepads, stickers, etc).  But we also added in some typical carnival items as well (cracker jacks).
