Upcycled Snow Blocks!
Ready for some indoor snow fun!!! With just a bit of upcycling and extra wrapping effort, your kiddos can build the ultimate snow fort, snow castle, or snow wall to hide against a snowball fight!! Their imaginations will soar with these budget-friendly, DIY snow blocks. Read on to check out the fun!
You really only need a handful of supplies – save up those package boxes, shoe boxes, or any other sturdy boxes you can find. Then wrap them up in some white wrapping or banner paper and let the kiddos start building 🙂
Then, use them for stackable, STEM winter lessons, backdrops for winter parties (like Frozen or Holiday movie parties), or regular old imaginative play! Have fun!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
THE SUPPLIES:
- Upcycled Cardboard Boxes (package boxes, shoe boxes, etc).
- White Wrapping or Banner Paper
THE TOOLS
- Tape
- Scissors
STEPS
STEP 1: Set up the Blocks
Close up the boxes and secure them with tape. Then wrap them with the white paper similar to wrapping a present box. Repeat for as many boxes that you have!
STEP 2: Optionally Decorate
Optionally decorate with some decorative snowflakes or snowballs!
THE SNOW STRUCTURES!
Once all the boxes have been wrapped, let your kids start building! Give them some challenges (like snow castles, snow caves, or snow forts) OR just let them create!
THE SNOW CASTLE
Challenge your kiddos to build the TALLEST snow castle! They’ll quickly learn that larger blocks provide some more structure at the bottom while the smaller, lighter ones are best for the top!
THE SNOW CAVE
This one is a bit more difficult since there’s a bit of a “roof” involved. The kiddos will have to figure out how to keep the ceiling structure in place!
THE SNOW FORT
Build the ULTIMATE (though not very sturdy) snow fort!!!! Hide your Indoor Snow balls and start launching them!
