An Easy, Inexpensive New Years Confetti Craft – How to Create An Upcycled Confetti Box
Tagged Tags: , ,

New Year’s Eve is on it’s way!  If the year just went by way too fast and New Years snuck upon you this year, don’t worry!  This confetti box is super easy to set up!  And, while you may have way too much confetti on the floor on New Year’s day, you’re little ones will LOVE it!  You’ll be sure to have an evening full of smiles and laughter.  Read on to check out the fun!

This one also works well for younger kids who might have trouble with confetti poppers or other tossers.  The littlest ones can get in on the fun too 🙂

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

THE SUPPLIES:

  • Colored Paper – (Money Saving Tip: use all that wrapping paper from opened Christmas presents)
  • An Upcycled Box  (A package box would work well.  Size depends on how much confetti you have and want to toss!)
  • Optional for Decorating – Wrapping/Tissue Paper, Paint, and/or Stickers

THE TOOLS:

  • A Paper Shredder (or little helpers armed with kid scissors.. 🙂 )
  • Box Cutter

STEPS

STEP 1: Create Your Confetti

While you can find confetti to purchase, you can keep costs down with a bit of upcycling & effort.  Keep all that Christmas wrapping and tissue paper when presents are opened.  Then send them straight through your paper shredder (Adults should do this part as the little ones should stay away from the paper shredder). If you don’t have one, ask your eager little helpers to do some cutting with you (If they’re small, make sure they have age-appropriate scissors for safety).  Trust me, if they’re old enough to understand that they will eventually toss the confetti in the air on NYE, they might just spend all day cutting as much as they can!!!

STEP 2: Design the Box

If you’re pressed for time, just cut off the top flaps of the box and use what you have.  Otherwise, you can decorate the box and make it part of your New Years decorations.  Let your kids help and make it a craft day.  You can wrap, paint, or draw some New Years messages on the box!  Get creative!

STEP 3: Add the Confetti!

Once your box is done (and dry if painted), add the confetti into it!   At midnight – or your chosen celebration hour – let the kids grab the confetti by the handful and toss in the air!

Quick Tip 1: if you do fill the box before midnight / your chosen celebration hour, make sure to hide or raise it from the little ones..   Otherwise you might find some little eager ones inside the box and tossing confetti before the countdown! 🙂

Quick Tip 2: If you have an extra New Years Plastic Tablecloth lying around, lay it out & put the box on top of it. Then let the kiddos toss their confetti on top of the tablecloth. It won’t catch everything (especially if you have really eager tossers), but it will lessen the amount of clean up 😉
