Instill the Love of Reading – An Easy DIY Reading Nook They’ll WANT to Read in
Tagged Tags: ,

Inspire kids (or adults!) to read while being immersed in an imaginative, inspirational book-filled area! With just a few items, you can transform a side or corner of your room into a wonderful reading corner with a world full of books that you won’t want to leave! 🙂

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

While the items listed here were used to create our reading area, feel free to mix and match or substitute – whatever works for you & inspires the love of reading!

THE SUPPLIES:

STEPS

STEP 1: Set the backdrop

Find a wall or corner and hang up the fairy tale book backdrop. Tape works well enough, though you’ll need a few pieces.

STEP 2: “Create the floor”

For our reading nook, we used a book blanket. If you don’t have one on hand, you can also try to ‘create a forest floor’ by laying down a dark brown or green blanket or towel.

STEP 3: Add the book storage

If you’ve got a small shelf, that would work too (you can optionally dress it up as a tree with some colored paper). We went with some tree stump ottomans that served as storage and as a seat (if you weren’t inclined to sit on the floor 🙂 ). The ottomans are actually really sturdy (an adult can sit on them without issue) and they were a nice place to tuck away all the books.

STEP 4: Additional decoration

We added in a few extra tree stump cushions (that also end up as pillows during reading time) for additional decoration. At one point, we had a makeshift campfire as well. The possibilities are endless!

STEP 5: Enjoy!

Now that you have your reading space, cuddle up with a good book and enjoy!
