An Outstanding Out of this World Space Party
Tagged Tags: ,

Do you have a budding astronaut or space scientist on your hands who has a celebration coming up? If so may be the party for you! We hosted this party for a little one with a fan of all things cosmos & galaxy themed! Read on to check out budget friendly ideas for decorations, games, activities, crafts, and more!

DECORATIONS

To keep costs low, we decorated with just a handful of ‘space items’ and some extra crafts.  We covered the party area with Celestial Table Covers to give the area an ‘outer space’ feel.  If you have any other space, astronaut, or alien items and don’t mind sharing, this might be the time to bring them out 🙂

THE PHOTO AREA

Photo backdrops are a great way of setting a theme and double as a nice and easy activity!  Pick a backdrop that functions as decorative, add a few props to the scene and you’ve got a great place to hang out!

For this party, we went with a VERY simple backdrop – we just used one of the Celestial Table Cover to make one of the walls look out of this world!

Note, you don’t have to go all out with a photo backdrop stand either.  Grab a few pieces of tape and an empty wall & you’re all set!

THE TABLE

For our “out of this world” table, we used a few themed plates and napkins then decorated with some extra crafts: Celestial Dinner Plates, Celestial Napkins, Celestial Table Cover.  Since the table already had stars all over it, we didn’t even need to add table scatter 🙂

PARTY FOOD

No party is complete without some party food!  You can always serve some typical (or fancier) party food, but you can also keep in theme with a few clever labels or snacks 🙂

We did have typical party food, but we also set up a ‘solar system’ of fruit 🙂  While we didn’t have enough space to lay out the bowls like a solar system, we did have different types of fruit with a solar system sticker to represent each planet 🙂

ACTIVITY TABLE(S)

We typically set up an activity table for kids to keep entertained while everyone arrives AND after all the games are done.  These activities are simple and easy and typically don’t require too much supervision.

GAMES

What’s a party without some fun and memorable games??? Kids will definitely have fun just running around and coming up with their own games, BUT adding in a few themed games will definitely be a hit with your guests! Here were a few of ours.

  • Moon Rocks: for this game, we simply hid the “moon rocks” (regular rocks) around the party area and had the kids search for as many as they could!  Note: although we just used regular rocks (timing and cost), you could also paint a few rocks to look more ‘galactic’, paint some rocks with glow in the dark paint and have a search in the dark activity, or purchase some galactic stress balls or light up star balls (and possibly let them keep them as prizes).
  • Black Hole: If you’re familiar with black holes, essentially they “suck” in everything that comes within a certain distance of it.  There are TONS of games that you can base off this concept.
    • If you’re indoor, divide into two teams, each team has to designate one person as the ‘black hole’ and try to catch any ‘space debris’ (soft, foam balls, or galactic stress balls, pom poms, etc) that’s tossed by the other team members.  The ‘black hole’ with the most space debris wins.
    • If you’re outdoors and have a large enough space, you can play a version of ‘red rover’ where the person in the middle is actually the black hole trying to catch anyone who runs across.

And while we didn’t have these games at our party, you could also add these board games in for some more party fun.

GIVEAWAYS AND GOODIE BAGS

What’s a party without a few giveaways 🙂  We sent them home with all the crafts that they created that day but also had a few space themed items in their goodie bags: space puzzles
