Ideas for an Easy & Sweet Little Nutcracker Party

Whether you’re a long time fan of the nutcracker or seeing it for the first time, a nutcracker party is a perfect pair to watching the ballet or films!  If you’ve got some little ones in your group, they’ll love these themed activities! Read on to check out some of our ideas!

We have seen the nutcracker and various versions a few times but this year decided to add on some extra fun by including some crafts and decorations to the day!  It made the day extra special for our little ones!

THE TABLE

While we didn’t have a nutcracker themed meal, we did set up our table to match the theme of the day.  We had just a few “nutcracker” themed items (Nutcracker Luncheon Napkins and Nutcracker Paper Cups) as well as some nutcrackers we’ve collected over the years.   We also used some solid colored items from the Dollar Store or Party Stores along with some glitter, tinsel pom poms for the scatter.

ACTIVITIES

While watching the film or live show are more than entertaining, a few simple crafts and activities add to the excitement of the day!  These few kept our kiddos captivated for quite some time 🙂

  • DIY Mouse Ornament Craft: While this one isn’t specifically related to the nutcracker, there is a Mouse King character, so we added this cute little mouse in as an activity.  This craft one was from orientaltrading.com.  It’s one of their DIY ornament kits with self-adhesive stickers, so nothing additional needed!  These are great additions for any kids activity table if you’re looking for something that has everything in the packet!  It doesn’t look like this one is in stock but any mouse craft would be a cute addition to your day 🙂
  • Pipe Cleaner Ballerinas: This is one of our super simple and inexpensive crafts with a few versions to make your craft last longer OR to complete it within a few minutes 🙂
  • Wooden Nutcrackers for Painting:  This one comes with six mini nutcracker figurines that the kids can decorate and paint as they like!   The kit doesn’t come with much paint, so you do have to supplement with your own set.
  • Lego Nutcrackers:  While this brickhead kit is definitely more of a costly item ($10 per box), if you’ve got a small group, this little kit can keep them interested for quite a bit.  If you can’t find these, there are also some templates and instructions or building versions of nutcrackers online with regular lego sets – frugalfunforboys.com has a great set of instructions that’s easy to follow on their site: How to Build a Lego Nutcracker Christmas Ornament
