Awesome Ideas for a Fun & Easy Grinch Watch Party!

Looking for some added fun to your Holiday movie night?  If The Grinch is the film for the evening, try adding in quick & easy crafts & activities to add some extra fun for the day!  Read on to check out some ideas!

THE TABLE

While you may not need a tablescape if you’re sitting in front of the movie for most of the time, we still like setting up ours for before or after movie meals!  It’s a fun way to get into the theme of the movie and tease some activities for afterwards!

Our table was pretty simple – we didn’t go all out with Grinch themed tableware but did have a few things – Grinch Dinner Plates and Grinch Cups.  We also set aside a Hershey Kisses Holiday Milk Grinch Cane for each setting.  Then we mixed in some solid greens and reds & the table settings were done 🙂

For our centerpiece, we set up a mini tree with a few Shiny Mini Present Boxes underneath (presents were used later in a game).  We mixed in some similar sized Hershey Kiss Holiday Grinch boxes with the presents as well (we later gave everyone one of their own to munch on!)

We considered scattering some more Hershey Kisses Holiday Milk Chocolates around the table as scatter but thought we had too much chocolate on the table already.  So, we used some green pom poms and mini santa hats instead – They somewhat looked like grinch heads?

SNACKS & DESSERTS

What’s a movie party without a few snacks?  Get in the spirit by serving up a few quick & easy grinch or grinch-themed snacks!

  • Green Popcorn: add a bit of green food coloring and some melted butter & you’ve got some festive looking popcorn 🙂
  • Green Fruit & Veggie Tray:  This one is super easy and doesn’t require any special prep.  Just lay out a few green fruits & veggies (green grapes, green apples, green pears, kiwis, cucumbers, broccoli).
  • Grinch Fruit Kabobs: Strawberries, bananas, and a green grape on a toothpick. Note: you may want to keep some extra fruit on hand – if they were like ours, the kids may just have as much fun making them as eating them!
  • Cupcakes with Heart Picks: If you’re in the baking spirit, serve up some cupcakes in green cupcake liners and/or green icing!  Top them off with some heart shaped picks 🙂

CRAFTS

Keep them busy with some easy crafts before or after the movie!

  • Heart Pillows: Using two pieces of felt, some cotton (or stuffing), and a glue gun, make a sweet little heart shaped pillow!
  • Felt Hearts: Have a few different heart shaped templates on the table and let the little ones trace them onto some red felt.  Once they’ve all been created, a grown can help by hot gluing them all together (in size order of course!).  Alternatively, you can do this with construction paper or printed paper that they need to color as well as glue sticks.
  • Wooden Grinches: Pick up some Mini Wooden Peg Dolls and some mini santa hats (yes the same ones from the table ;)) and let the kids paint a grinch.  Technically the wooden figure isn’t the same shape but no one seemed to mind 😉
  • Craft Kits: If you want to go the store bought craft kit route, there are tons of crafts and small toys that you can find online.  We found our Grinch Party Supplies from orientaltrading and picked up two kits for the group: The Grinch Christmas Snow Globes and The Grinch Christmas Fireplace Popup Craft.  They were simple & easy with everything included!

GAMES

And once they’ve finished the movie (and are probably all sugared up), get them moving with a few easy to set up games!

  • Find all the Hearts: If you’ve got a printer handy, print out a few hearts and hide them around the movie party area.  (You could also just cut some heart shapes out of red construction paper or draw them as well!  They just have to look like hearts).  Have the kids find as many as they can!  (If you want everyone to have a chance at finding them, just have each kid write down where they found the heart OR keep count.  This way you won’t run into the problem of some kids getting all the hearts before they can be found.)
  • Paper Skee-ball, Grinch Style: In the movie, the Grinch has a small heart which eventually grows.  Lay down a few varying heart shapes with numbers for points and let kids toss a green bean bag or green pom pom to get their highest scores!
  • Present Relay Race:  At one point in the movie, the Grinch steals just about every present in the town.  Have your own version of grabbing as many presents as you can!  We used Shiny Mini Present Boxes but you could also wrap up any cardboard or paper boxes you have around the house 😉
