An Easy, Outdoor Picnic Party with Budget-friendly Games!
Tagged Tags: , ,

Looking to host a low-key get together with some fun & games in your backyard or at the park?  Reconnecting and getting together in person may be more than enough fun but if you’re looking to lay out some easy games and activities, read on to check out these budget-friendly ideas!

Dollar Store Mini Games

Lay out some picnic blankets (or ask your guests to bring their own). Then spread out a few mini games from the Dollar Tree on the blanket. We picked up quite a variety:

  • Desktop Arcade
  • Desktop Bowling (though this one didn’t work as well on the grassy ground)
  • Desktop Darts
  • Desktop Horseshoe
  • Desktop Ping Pong (for this one, the net kept falling, so we just used the paddles)

Supersized Dice Games

While you can definitely purchase a set of large-scale dice at the store, we opted to create our own using just posterboard and some construction paper – though they’re not as sturdy, they’re fairly quick to make & much less costly than buying the wooden set.  Check out our tutorial here: A How-to Guide on Creating A Supersized Dice.  Once you’ve got a few, you can play just about any dice games you can think of 🙂   OR just toss ‘em in the air like our kiddos did 😉

Extra Large Board Games

At the time of this posting, you can find an extra large game of Snakes and Ladders from Oriental Trading for just under $15.  It’s not as heavy as a picnic blanket, so you may have to weigh down the corners with some rocks but otherwise it’s a great addition to a picnic party!

Large Checkers Set

Super Tic-Tac-Toe & Checkers doubles as on the checkers on one side and tic tac toe on other side and was $15 from Amazon.

Bubbles

Bubbles!  Bubbles!  Bubbles!  What kid doesn’t love bubbles?  Opt for a few larger bubbles wands and they can twirl or run around to make the larges bubbles!

Sidewalk Chalk

Let them create!  Lay out a few different colors of sidewalk chalk, an you’ll be sure to get some creative artwork!

Build a Fairy House

If you’ve got a few kiddos who love fairies, have them collect some twigs, rocks, and any other natural items.  Either let them create with just the nature around them or give them some glue and Upcycled materials and let them create a simple, natural fairy house or natural structure!
