An Easy & Inexpensive Headless Horseman Craft – Step By Step

Looking for a simple and easy craft to create for the Halloween Season or to wrap up a day dedicated to reading The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving? This Headless Horseman craft is extremely simple and uses only a handful of materials!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

For this craft, we opted to use felt to give the craft more texture, but you could easily swap out the felt for construction paper.

THE SUPPLIES:

  • 1 Upcycled Tin Can – We used a tomato paste one so the pumpkin head would look a bit bigger than the body.
  • 1 Small Sheet of Red Felt
  • 1 Small Sheet of Black Felt
  • 1 Mini Pumpkin – You can find these online all over the place, e.g: 12 Piece Mini Pumpkin BPA Free Plastic Candy Bucket

THE TOOLS:

  • Scissors
  • Glue (Hot Glue works best but you’d need to help our your little ones)

STEPS

STEP 1: Create the Body

Clean out the Upcycled Tin & Ensure there aren’t any pointy areas.  Depending on what size of tin you’re using, the sizes of the felt will vary.  Then cut out enough Red Felt Sheet to wrap around the tin can.  Glue in place.

STEP 2: Add the Cape

Cut out a larger rectangle for the cape – you will want it to be slightly longer so it will “flow” easily.  Glue the black felt in the back and at the top of the can but leave the rest unattached.

STEP 3: Add the Pumpkin Head
Glue the pumpkin head to the top.  Alternatively you can glue the pumpkin to the middle of the body so that it appears as if the Horseman is holding the pumpkin head.
