Read through to check out our ideas on ways to decorate your learning space, find links to fun & educational videos, books – fiction and non-fiction, writing prompts or story telling ideas, science experiments, food crafts & snacks, and kid-friendly crafts all themed for the week!
DAY 1: An Introductory Day – The History of Halloween

For our very first day, we started out by learning all about Halloween’s origins, why we dress up in costumes, and when tradition of handing out candy started. We also brought out some spooky decorations to help set the tone for the week! Click here to check out full details of the day!
DAY 2: Frankenstein Day

For our second day, we turned our attention to a familiar green character – Frankenstein’s monster (not to be confused with Dr. Frankenstein, his creator ;)). The Creature comes from a novel written by Mary Shelley. Though the actual story is a bit mature (and is far too scary for younger audiences), Frankenstein’s Creature is often appears in Halloween and many times depicted a bit friendlier for younger audiences. With such an interesting origin, we had to spend a day with Frankenstein’s Creature. Click here to check out full details of the day!
DAY 3: Vampire Day

For our third day, we faced a blood sucking creature head on – vampires! Vampires have often been featured or appeared in several cartoons, books, and movies, so it’s very possible that your kid is familiar with this one – or at least a less scary version of this creature. In addition to some vampire-themed crafts and snacks, we also spent some time learning about one of the most popular vampire stories – Dracula. Click here to check out full details of the day!
DAY 4: The Headless Horseman

For our fourth day, we dug a little deeper into the history of the Headless Horseman! Arguably, this one is difficult turn into a more friendly, cartoonish version fit for little ones, but there have been a few movies made for children! The horseman can trace its origins several hundreds of years back and has some gruesome origins. BUT, one of the more popular stories involving the Headless Horseman came from Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. This is the version that we focused on for the day. Click here to check out full details of the day!
DAY 5: Werewolves

For our last and final day, we studied a furry, sometimes-scary, sometimes smiling creature that’s often brought out during the Halloween season – werewolves! Though they can clearly be on the scarier side with their legends and lore, today we , brought out one of the cutest werewolf squishmallows, and learned all about the werewolf legends!
