Welcome to our “Spooktacular Stories Week” – a collection of days filled with relaxed learning and fun activities all themed to the spooky stories! Perfect for Halloween, late night camp fires, or just plain old spooky fun, this week is perfect for keeping little ones entertained and learning while they enjoy some not-too-scary days devoted to some ghost stories!
Read through to check out our ideas on ways to decorate your learning space, find links to fun & educational videos, books – fiction and non-fiction, writing prompts or story telling ideas, science experiments, food crafts & snacks, and kid-friendly crafts all themed for the week!
DAY 1: An Introductory Day
For our very first day, we started out by determining what exactly makes a ghost story and how they differ from horror stories or any other type of story. We also brought out some spooky decorations to help set the tone for the week! Click here to check out full details of the day!
DAY 2: The Legend of Stingy Jack
Pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns are almost synonymous with Halloween, but do you know why that’s the case? Enter the Legend of Stingy Jack, a spirit cursed to roam the land with a gourd. We absolutely brought out the pumpkins for this day: decorated a few, snacked on pumpkin snacks, and learned all about why pumpkins are everywhere on Halloween! Click here to check out full details of the day!
DAY 3: The Flying Dutchman
There’s nothing quite so spooky as a ghostly pirate ship with a crew doomed to sail forever – that’s exactly what the Legend of Flying Dutchman is all about! For our third day, we brought out our pirate spirits and explored ghostly pirate ships! Click here to check out full details of the day!
DAY 4: The Night Marchers
For our fourth day, we learned all about spirits of ancient warriors walking Hawaiiain islands at night, the Night Marchers! Their legend is filled with warning drums, torches, and nighttime marches – perfect for a spooky story! Click here to check out full details of the day!
DAY 5: Madeline & the Old House in Paris
For our last and final day, we wanted to end on a familar and sweet note, so we switched back to a not-at-all scary story about an old ghost and a popular orphan, Madeline and the Old House in Paris! In this adorable kids book, Madeline and her friends meet and help out a ghost in need. Click here to check out full details of the day!
FINISH OFF THE WEEK!
To wrap up the week, head out to the yard, park, or camping ground. Circle around a camp fire (or hold some flashlights) and share the spooky stories everyone created!
Or, if you’re not into sharing your creative works, watch one of the movies from above or any other ghost story 🙂
