Welcome to our “Secrets of the Wand – A Magical Magicians Week” – an at home week filled with days of relaxed learning and fun activities all themed to oh-so-mesmerizing magicians!!!  While we definitely carved out some time to become master magicians, this week was more focused on the history of magic and some famous magicians!  And in addition to learning all about the history of magic and about some groundbreaking magicians, we also conjured up some crafts and created our own magical stories!

Read through to check out our ideas on ways to decorate your camp area, find links to fun & educational videos, books – fiction and non-fiction, writing prompts or story telling ideas, science experiments, food crafts & snacks, and kid-friendly crafts all themed for the week!

DAY ONE: An Introductory Day

Almost every child is familiar – at least in some capacity – with the magic and magicians! This week, we used that familiarity and magic excitement to bring in some great learning concepts!  We started off the week by learning about the history of magic – how it was viewed in ancient times all the way through understanding how modern magic came to be.  We also decorated our learning space and prepped for our end of week magic show! DAY TWO: Famous Magicians!

While our magic week wasn’t centered on debunking or discovering the tricks behind the magic, we did study some very famous, historical magicians!  For this day, we concentrated on getting an overview of a handful as we wouldn’t have had time to go through ALL the amazing historical magicians.  Then we picked a few for the remaining days to dive deeper for the rest of the days! Click here to check out full details of the day!

DAY THREE: Jean Eugene Robert-Houdin

If you’re like our family, we did not know much about this magician Jean Eugene Robert-Houdin, though we did learn that Houdini styled his name after this ground breaking magician and that many consider him the father or modern magic! Click here to check out full details of the day!

DAY FOUR: Harry Houdini

One cannot have a magician week without dedicating some time to one of the most famous magicians of the modern age, Harry Houdini!  Click here to check out full details of the day!

Day FIVE: Adelaide Herrman

And for our last and final day, we learned all about the Queen of Magic, Adelaide Herrmann! Although she was as famous as Houdini in her time, we did not know much about here & definitely enjoyed getting to know her! Click here to check out full details of the day!

FINISH OF THE WEEK!

Whew! What a week! After all magical training and magic history, there are quite a few ways to celebrate the end of Magician’s week!

First and foremost, celebrate with a magic show of your own – since our weeklong project was to put on a magic show, we turned this into a mini family event, complete with popcorn and a family audience!

If there are any family friendly magic shows around, take advantage and bring the kiddos! Maybe they’ll be able to spot the tricks behind the magic tricks 😉

Or, if you’re all spent & just want to relax, grab some popcorn and watch the some magician-themed movies!!!

BUT, if you’re still in the mood for some celebration, end the week with an ULTIMATE Magician’s Party!
