Wizarding Fun – A Quick & Easy Potion Ingredient Guessing Game

What does Abraxan Hair, Gillyweed, and Mandrake Root all have in common? They’re ingredients used in Harry Potter Potions.. AND in this super fun ingredient guessing game. Click here to check it out!

Remember the fun of reaching into a bag with your eyes closed and feeling ‘bat eyes’ or ‘troll buggers’? This is a similar game with a Harry Potter Wizarding Twist 🙂 We used ingredient names mentioned in the movies, books, games.. and let guests try to figure out which one they felt! Read on to check out the fun;)

We used this game in one of our Harry Potter Parties: An Intro Into the Wizard World but you can definitely add this into any Harry Potter Parties (more ideas here) or switch it up for a Halloween Party 🙂

SUPPLIES

All you really need is a few ingredients you can get from the grocery store. We only used 8 or so of these but thought we’d share with you the list we came up with in case you can’t find one or another at your local store 🙂 Harry Potter Ingredients on the left, actual ingredients are on the right;)

  • Abraxan Hair – Corn Silk
  • Beetle Eyes – Peeled Grapes
  • Dragon Skin – Soft corn tortilla w/ a little oil
  • Flobberworm Mucus – Applesauce
  • Frog Brain – Cooked, cooled spaghetti
  • Gillyweed – Cooled, Sauteed Spinach
  • Mandrake Root – Ginger
  • Morning Dew – Water
  • Phoenix Feathers – Craft Feathers
  • Pickled Slugs – Raisins in Applesauce
  • Rat Tail – Gummy Worms
  • Re’em Blood – Sliced (Length-wise) Kiwi or Dragon Fruit
  • Sophorous Bean – Dried Beans
  • Spiders – Plastic Spiders (tied to a string to make them move)

SETUP

We set up the table with a few “potion ingredients” (some slime fans may recognize that ‘shelf of glitter ingredients’) as well as some upcycled glass and plastic cans. We did have some other Halloween decorations that we included for added effect.

We walked our guests through this one (who doesn’t want to see their faces when they touch something like “Flobberworm Mucus” :):):) So, we only had one cauldron out but switched the ingredients after each round. Alternatively, you could set them up so the ingredients are in their own cauldrons if you want them to go through the activity on their own.
